THE NEW PHONE BOOK'S ARE HERE! THE NEW PHONE BOOK'S ARE HERE!

I'm surrounded by people at work who have no idea what I'm talking about.
Sigh.
Or when I Xerox off paper and hold it to my nose and say
"Remember that mimeographed smell?
and they look at me as if I'm insane.

Or the other day when I realized that no one writes in cursive anymore
and everyone says that it's OLD and obsolete.

and I defend it as easier, faster and as an ART.

Jeez.

And what about people who can't even count back change now-a-days.
I go through a drive through and my total is 6.55 so I give them a ten dollar bill and a nickel
and they stare at it.
"It's only $6.55, a ten will cover it." they say to me
to which I reply "But I don't want all the change, I want quarters"
....they have no idea what I'm talking about.
Actual money is hard for most of them. They are used to plastic money.

anyway...
I came home yesterday to see that my package from Amazon was on my front porch!
I was so happy. I could hear Steve Martin in my head yelling "The new phone books are here!"
So what books did I order?
Well, I already had gotten this one-

so I ordered-

and also just learned about this-

and I got this one too-

and I pre-ordered this -

I can't delay any longer.
Wishing won't make it true.
I need to focus and buckle down and not sweat the small stuff.
I've spent much too much time obsessing over wall paint colors
and yard/garden work
and procrastinating organizing the spare room as my Art room.
Hey! it's MY house.
If I want to work at the kitchen table and have my art supplies in the mud/laundry/dog room, I can and I will.
Maybe some day that room will be my work area
but obviously the fact that it's upstairs and away from everything, just doesn't seem to work for me.
At least not right now.
I might change my mind but it's not my top priority.
I need to LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS

and just get busy.
Someday I will want to retire from my current job
and hopefully I can make enough income from writing/illustrating
that I can live on that and social security comfortable
and not have to share cat food with with my kitties.

Lets face it we are getting older and the new generations won't get our jokes but someone will! I'm older than you but I don't get all your references from movies. But I can count change properly. Most of the time. And I mostly print, never liked writing cursive. But I can appreciate beautiful handwriting.
I should get that book "I just like to make things" because I do but I don't like the business part of trying to sell.

Jan,
You are older than me?
I would not have thought that from the photo of you and your family!
:D

Maybe it's because everyone in my younger years were always quoting CaddyShack, The Jerk, Stripes, Ghostbusters, etc. I just assumed everyone knew what I was talking about it. Maybe I will reserve my movie references for my sister! At least she already knows I'm goofy.

My "everyday" kind of writing is a blend of cursive and printing.
But at work when I have to leave a long note, I write fast scratched out cursive.
But for very detailed instructions it's carefully printed out. Sometimes even with illustrations! Ha! Ha!
Yes, get that book!
I've just flipped through it but it looks really good and I found out about it because an artist whose blog I follow, took her online class and loved it.
The woman that wrote it is an artist AND an artist agent, so she knows her stuff.
I'm excited about getting more focused and working on things that I've kept putting off.
Hey! Thanks for commenting!

I think I'm older than you, too. I think I'm older than almost everyone! But I can write in cursive and enjoy it. I can even count out change and I don't have to have a government study to tell my mama animals love their babies. I must be weird.

Oh so true. The only people who "get" my quips are my generation :)

Notes and coins are the only currency at my market stall - no cards accepted.
Recently, I made a purchase at a chain store, and presented the girl with cash. She looked at me aghast and asked, "don't I have a card?" Sigh. I said yes, but want to pay in cash. She sighed, even harder, reached under the bench and pulled out a cash box!!

Cursive is easier and artistic, I agree. I've "developed" my own style - a curly, cursive, print hybrid :)

I like your selection of books. Armed with great information and your fabulous talent, I'm sure it won't be too long before you're "in print".
Go get 'em Cindi!

Thanks for the morning laugh with
Steve Martin! As far as selling in
these very tight economic times (people are deciding between food or medicine) I'm selling my
excess (hoarded) art/craft supplies and not much else.

What has worked for me (I retired
before SS eligible) was to build
a lifestyle that needs less
money to sustain. I feel like
a salmon swimming upstream but am
happier. Sounds like you're doing the same thing. Take good care.

dtmb97,
thanks for commenting!
I'm 57. Is that older or younger.
I feel more like 34 physically
and maybe 10 mentally somedays.
Although I've recently felt about 107. :)
YES! Cursive seems so much easier I don't understand why they have stopped teaching it in some schools!
and don't get me started on those government studies! LOL!
By the way, wish I knew your name!
;)

Vicki,
I like the thought of writing in hybrid. I guess that's what I do too.
I know, when I have cash people seem startled and seem to dread having to figure out what to do with it.
I still have a checkbook but I only write checks to other people, not businesses. OMG, if you pull out a checkbook at Target you can feel the people behind you in line glaring! LOL!
Thanks for the support on my writing adventure!
XOXO

Patty,
Glad that Steve Martin was able to make you laugh! :D
Many days I think about retiring at 62 and not waiting on fulltime age of 66 and 1/2 (for my age group).
But I'd get less money and while I try to work on building a lifestyle that requires less cash, I find that I'm pretty materialistic.
Yep, not in the keeping up with Joneses thing because I'm not out to impress anyone but rather it's that I just want stuff. I know, it's awful but I really want those little luxuries that many people take for granted. I get some much joy from dumb things like that and yet I know it's stupid.
So I guess I'm trading a part of my soul for it.

WHO CARES but you?

think of BRUNO! LOL.
i can't wait for your children's book. BOOKS.

Oh god Tammy LOL!
I do adore you.
You are so right.
I've thought about my obsession with home decor and design.
Truly, why am I obsessing over everything when it's pretty darn rare for me to have company over.
I've had fantasies of living in a big loft or even better, a big redone barn and just living carefree with whatever I want around.
Isn't it funny how people feel that they must live in certain set ways.
and yet...I sit here still lusting over marble countertops! LOL!
I will get busy on those book(s!
Especially know that I know you know that I'm going to be famous!
hahahahahahahaha!

Yes we're old now :-) I do remember that smell and I do miss it. If the inbternet breaks down no one under the age of will know how to get a phone number :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

Good for you! My "studio" is a table easel on the dresser in my bedroom (I like to do things standing up). Before that I used to play on the living room table, but had to get things out and put them away so my husband had a place to eat. If something happened to him my stuff would still be strewn all around.

Playing with color is a hobby, though, I'm not trying to made money. I wish you all the luck in the world! Thanks for sharing with us. You have a large cheering section here. :)

Christer,
I feel like there's a possibility that there could be a disaster of some sorts and only the "old" people would know how to survive!
Hmm, sounds like a Stephen King book to me! LOL!

Jean,
Yes, I need to have my supplies where I will actually use them.
:)
Maybe someday I will use the room upstairs but right now I have some critters that can't make the steps so it's very inconvenient to be going up and down.
Thank you SO MUCH for your support!
It's so great to have people who believe in me!
