BROKEN HEARTED CATS

I made some little broken hearted cats and some happy ones too, with flowers.
I needed to get back to creating.
I need to turn my focus away from upsetting things and back to what I love.
I used to sell paintings on Ebay for short period and I had a small following but that was several years ago.
Then I stopped and I don't really know why...

I have my paintings at the vet clinic where I work
and I've sold several
I haven't made any more...
and I don't really know why.
I guess the reason doesn't matter.

What matters is that I just need to start again.
So, I've started and who knows,
but it might just turn out to be the "ticket" that I need.

TILE?

I am always so indecisive. But then if you have been reading this blog for any length of time, you already KNOW that. So it's no surprise that I have gallons of painting still around the house because I change my mind every other day.
Back and Forth and then - Back and Forth.
I want to tile my backsplash.
I was SO sure that it had to be white subway tile....timeless.
Timeless means I won't regret it. Right?
But before I do it, should I wait to get a new countertop? I have plain old laminate where the back curves up. I want a shiny black granite countertop. If I put in tile now the space between the counter and the wall won't measure out right to patch it with tile later.
I should just wait. and....
do I REALLY need a new countertop?
I have so many other places my cash could go.
And of course I would need to get my dream farmhouse drop sink....
and faucet.

But, lately it seems like everyone has that white subway tile.
I hate being like everybody.
and while I don't even have GREEN in my decor....
I was LOVING this:

But of course then I wouldn't want the black granite , I'd want marble...........
and then the other day I stumbled across this Ginger's re-do:

into this!

Add to this the fact that I just came across a box of cool little tiles in BLACK, BROWN and a BRONZY-GOLD and I also have several TUBS full of broken pottery, plates, mugs,
things-my-cats- have-broke, that I have been saving for SOMETHING.
Obviously their time has come.
BUT, maybe not.
I found this on Denise's blog:

this is her hand-painted living room wall.
I love the subtle colors and how they are soft instead of screaming.

and I DO have all those cans of paint....
So THAT'S IT!
I will paint the walls like Denise did. I'm thinking in greys and in more of a paisley pattern.
and WHEN I finally get my countertop, I will tile the backsplash like Ginger did!

So that's the plan...for now.
To paint the walls, before I tile (or do the floor).

PLANS for the WEEKEND...

I don't know about you but I need to have background noise. Sometimes I will put on music but mostly I just pop a movie into the DVD player while working on whatever project I have at the time. Of course many times this backfires and I end up stopping and watching the DVD.  Last weekend I rented "Mad Men".
I don't have cable and I thought I might enjoy it, especially since I love Mid-Century Modern decor. I must admit that at first I was so annoyed that I almost had to stop the DVD. It was very hard to watch women being treated as second class. I have a lot to say on the subject but I won't. I don't want to waste my energy on it. SO.....today I am going to watch -
WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.
I might regret it. My niece has warned me that it is sad.
I have a hard time watching movies made for children. They tend to rip my heart out.
I was haunted for DAYS after I watched NARNIA.
I know, I know. I realize what it represented but still, that LION...
I can't think about it.
And then there's the movie that I have been FORBIDDEN to watch by my sister and my nieces.
UP.
Have you seen it? They say that I could NOT handle it.
So I am assuming it has something to do with an animal and obviously there's that old man.
Yep, animals and old people get to me....and little kids being hurt, abused or ignored.
So that's how I will be spending the weekend. Watching DVD's while I reclaim my spare room and make it into my art/project area.
and if  WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE gets to me too bad, I will watch some Horror Flick, Gangster Movie or Slasher Film to wash the first from my mind. Those don't bother me.
Instead I just think about how stupid the person was to go into the house, alley, whatever.
Have a GOOD WEEKEND!

FLOORING FRUSTRATIONS

So I'm trying to think of something to post so that I can link up to Nita's "Mod Mix Monday" (yeah, I know it's Tuesday) and since I don't really have anything I thought I could post about what I am GOING to do.
OK, So I'm pretty sure that I am going to tile the kitchen in glossy black and white diamond tiles.
(Kate Spade kitchen)
Maybe I'll even tile the living room...since it's actually all connected.
source
Or I'll break it up and paint the living room floor a glossy White.
Or maybe I'll just do both the kitchen AND the living room in White.
source
But I KNOW that I'm going to get some FLOR carpet tiles for the living room.
I had it narrowed down to a red color
or a black and white
or a black and red pattern
but today I got my NEW Flor catalog in the mail.
OH MY! More choices!
First I must say-
I hate animal skins on the floor. I don't understand the attraction of a dead thing laying there in the middle of the room. The only thing worse would be a dead head on the wall. The people who like this stuff must not follow any Feng Shui rules. I mean if Feng Shui doesn't like cut flowers in a room because they are in the act of dying...I'm sure that it would be VERY BAD energy to have something that's actually DEAD in the room.
Yep, not good.
But FLOR now has a NEW faux cow skin.
MOD COW -
Kinda Cool!
and then BAD JACK...
OK, I'm loving that too.
That's the problem with not having the immediate cash for flooring. While I saving up for it, I'm changing my mind a hundred times!!!
....or I could paint the floor black! -
My head hurts!

I'm spending the weekend cleaning (i.e. moving furniture around) and hopefully creating amongst the chaos!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS! OMG!

A fisherman kayaking on the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend made one catch he'll never forget -- a dog swimming for his life off the Siesta Key coast.
What initially seemed like a bizarre rescue actually took place following a horrific tragedy, when a drunk driver fatally struck the dog's owner in a hit-and-run accident approximately one mile from the shore, according to ABC Action News.
Authorities told the local Patch that they found Donna Chen, 53, face down on the pavement that afternoon, while her dog, Barney, was nowhere to be seen.
Police said that the suspected driver, Blake Talman, was fleeing another crash scene when his Nissan Altima spun out of control, striking Chen and Barney, as well as some landscaping, a street sign, a telephone line, and several wooden poles lining the entrance to a church, according tot he Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
Talman and his passenger were both taken to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
It wasn't until after posting the rescue video to YouTube that the kayaker connected the accident to his timely rescue.
"Our guess is that [the dog] was so freaked out and traumatized that he just wanted to get as far away from there as possible," he wrote in the video's description. "And when he ran out of land, he took to the water."
The kayaker pulled the visibly distraught and injured dog to safety. He is now with the family and is expected to make a full recovery.
Talman, 22, is charged with DUI manslaughter in addition to DUI property damage and personal injury.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I've been thinking about this -
and I procrastinate by getting on the computer.
BLOG, PINTEREST, EMAIL, SURFING...time just slips away.
I DO have some projects that I'm working on.
But a friend said to me that I should work more ON my BLOG.
So I'll be changing it around, spiffing it up and working on it by making it more organized. Having categories/topics.....

Any suggestions?

SOMETIMES....

all a person wants to do is to come home and take their shoes off, pour a beverage, wrap a blanket around their shoulders, cross their legs so their pet can lay on their lap and rest their chin on their hand and stare into the computer.
Maybe read some blogs or just surf around in a daze.
Maybe you prefer to read a book.
I still read.
In fact I MUST read before I can fall to sleep every night. Sometimes it's just a page but I gotta read. I also usually listen to a book on CD in my car as I go to and from work.
I used to be addicted to buying books.
Then I discovered that I could just drive 7 blocks from my house to the library and get them for free! Sure, I could walk. In fact I do plan on walking. As soon as it's not so cold. And it can't be icy. I can't risk falling and breaking something. God, that sounds like a really old person talking! But even if I just broke my wrist it would hinder my ability to do my job. Gotta have that paycheck. So I won't be walking when there's ice. Maybe if there's snow and if it's not too windy. I might get an earache. I suppose I just need to get a good hat. Maybe one of those cute funny ones that looks like a sock monkey. I planned on walking last summer but it was always SO hot out. Some days were pretty nice but then I always waited until the last minute and had to drive quickly down before they closed. Besides, if I walk anywhere I feel really weird without a dog. Whenever I see people walking I think, Ah, you poor person. Why don't you have a dog? You need dog. Can't you have a dog? I think those thoughts most times but sometimes when I'm having a really bad day and I'm angry at the world, I think - What's wrong with you! Why don't you have a dog? which is a horrible thing to think. Maybe they are very caring people and they work all the time except when they are walking and they feel like they wouldn't have time for a dog. But if ya got time to walk, ya got time for a dog.
If I was walking it would be with a dog and that dog would be Blue. But Blue isn't someone you could tuck under your coat when you get there.
OK, so if not Blue, then at least Ruby...she needs to lose some weight. I've been measuring out her food but she's hit a plateau. I guess I need to ask them if I can bring a small dog inside with me sometime.
Of course if it's too cold, Ruby would need a coat. She's pretty awkward in coats. I got her an adorable Woolrich one a few years back, I Velcro'd her into it and she tried to walk and then tried to roll over and ended up like a June-bug on her back.
People laughed at her. She just laid there, staring up a me with the dirtiest look.  "How could you do this to me?"
So I didn't make her wear it again.
So maybe I'll wait for Spring to walk Ruby down there.
So, I've stopped buying books. Except maybe some discounted ones on Amazon or at Goodwill for 88 cents. I've gotten some great books at Goodwill. But as far as actually buying one full price? Nope, I don't do it.
Then a while back at Target I saw this book "Maru".
I've seen the YouTube videos. I love that cat. And I love the decor of his home in the background.
The best of 2 worlds. An adorable cat and design ideas.
I had to buy it.
Are you like that too? I mean do you watch a movie and ignore the plot and stare at the decor. Reverse it back and pause it to get a better look at the room. Or maybe it's just me.
Anyway I love this cat and I wish my floor were so spotless and shiny.
So, What IS the point to this long RAMBLE?
uh, OH!
the last Maru video.....
