A NICE SURPRISE

I like to sit at my kitchen table and read blogs and answer comments on my laptop.
Or I'll do little sketches and doodles while sitting there
and when I look out my windows
I see my neighbors dining room window.
Or, I think it's their dining room.
If I have my curtains pulled back, to let in the light
I can see right into their house.
If they have theirs pulled back,
they can see into my house too.
I thought about this last year
and decided a privacy fence or even a single fence panel
wouldn't be tall enough to block them out
and while they are nice enough people
I don't want to look at them.
So last year I went out and bought a little fruit tree.
I already have a few planted around my yard.
When I got that tree, in case they were looking out their window,
I made a big show of setting it in various spots and
standing back and looking at it with a critical eye
while I already knew darn well where it was going.
I just didn't want to it to be obvious, that I was blocking them out.
So, I planted that tree
and a yellow climbing rose and a red rose bush and well, lots of things.

This morning, before leaving for work
I was reading all the great comments you all had left me
about Ricochet and my work problem(s).
I was wishing I didn't have to go to work, even if everything was ideal
because a cool breeze floated into the room.
It finally was a day without rain and light fell across my kitchen table.
I paused every now and then and glanced outside and
thought about staking the little tree or maybe pruning it.
I thought about how I needed to get out there and do some weeding
and I thought about....so many things.

Then something caught my eye.

Was that the neighbors dog?
Was she loose?
I got up and walked closer to the window.
NO! it wasn't a dog!

I snapped a couple of photos with my phone
and then I hurried out the front door and walked slowly to the side yard.
Just a few feet away.
She/He looked at me for a moment
and I swear it almost stepped forward
and then it took a step back and turned.

It hurried but didn't run.
I stood there for a moment.
I felt happy..
Life is Good.
Everything will eventually work out.

Oh...how lovely! What a bit of magic in your day. She is so pretty! I laughed at you walking around pretending to try to figure out where to plant the tree when you knew along where it was going to go...you just didn't want to hurt their feelings.

Nita,
I know! it was so magical!
:D
and I actually like THOSE neighbors.
The neighbors on the other side I would gladly build a tall ugly fence to block them out.... oh wait, I did.

Cynthia,

You're like a deer magnet! They must know you're a "good human". When I first moved into my house, one of the houses that borders my back yard had a really ugly garage that was almost falling apart. It was an eyesore that sort of ruined the view from my deck. So, I planted an ornamental cherry tree in that corner of my yard to block the view of that garage. The tree really took off and within 3-4 years it completely hid the garage. It's been about 15 years since I planted the tree and it wasn't until a couple of years ago when I was out there pruning it a little bit that I noticed that the neighbors had finally put new siding on the garage and really fixed it up. (Even though I never said anything to them about the garage, I felt kind of bad for having critical thoughts about it because I'm sure the fact that it looked so bad bothered them too!)

By the way, I just wanted to let you know that I got the two little paintings yesterday. The box was on my front steps when I got home last night. The "I love coffee" one is now in my kitchen and I put the "Think Happy" one on one of my nightstands to remind me to think positive thoughts as soon as I wake up every morning. They both look great!

I have to admit that I am a bit jealous (spelled it right this time :-) :-) ), I only have them in my garden when winter arrives and even the young ones are rather big by then. It is so cute!

To be honest, I think Your neighbors like where You put that tree too, very few like to be able to look straight into someones home like that, personally I would hate it if anyone could look in to my home. Who knows I might be walking around totally naked and I really don't want anyone to go blind because of seeing me :-) :-) :-) As the garderner I am, what kind of fruit tree is it?

Have a great midsummer's day!
Christer.

Grace,
I totally understand about the garage and having to look at it all the time.
Visual things can completely alter how you feel. In fact I used to drive to work a certain way and to be honest, the view upset me. Now I take a different route and it just makes me happier.
My neighbors probably thought the same thing about my home when I first buy it. It's taken me a long time to get things done but it's finally got to a point that I feel good when I pull into the driveway.
I'm so happy that the paintings got to you OK and I'm glad that you like them and I love that the one starts your day off on a positive note!
XOXOXO

Christer,
I know! I'm not surprised that you are a bit jealous!
LOL! I feel pretty good about it myself. In fact as I drove by a house that I like, I thought to myself "Well, I bet them don't get fawns in THEIR yard!"
I guess I'm happy where I am at.
LOL! I KNOW you understand what I mean.

I'm not sure about the neighbors feeling that way because there used to be a HUGE hedge next to the property line and they never trimmed it and it would get so overgrown that it blocked light from my yard. I would cut the part that hung over into my yard and then the hedge would droop into theirs.
So one day I asked the neighbor if I could cut it down to maybe 4 feet.
He was fine with that but then he decided to pull the whole hedge out of the ground with his truck. He was so happy about it and said that it opened up the space and this way they could see my house and that was good for safety issues. He said they would be able to see if anyone tried to get into my house or something....
Seriously?
I live in a great neighborhood with beautiful homes and mine is that odd tiny skinny house wedged in between. That one odd house that every neighborhood seems to have. My point is that I think someone would break into the neighbors house that drives the Jaguar rather than this house full of barking dogs at the windows.
But still, nice to have neighbors watching out for me.
Just not watching me! LOL! (maybe I'll try the naked thing and blind them all!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I think it's a pear tree. My other pear died from the harsh winter so I think I replaced it with the same. I have an apple in the front yard and a little plum starting to grow along the drive and I just planted a cherry that was super cheap. All part of my plan to eat free fruit when I retire.
:)
Thanks for commenting!

Awwwwwww. That sweet face!! I live in the land of lions and tigers and bears (minus the lions and tigers), Bobcats, snapping turtles, fox, turkeys, deer, and even the occasional moose. But I never seem to have a camera handy when they appear, or they don't stay still long enough for me to capture them.

That was a lovely way to start your day and yes, everything WILL work out.

P.S. I think I would have done the same thing as you did with that tree. I'm picturing your face looking ponderous and oh so serious while doing it. Really laying it on thick. Lol

What a lovely surprise! I love your blue bird bath too, I kind of remember your telling us about that in a past post. You are too funny, pretending to audition your little tree in various spots! I'll bet your neighbors admire you. I do.

Bears?!!!
I just watched a TV show called "In a Instant". Each week it shows what can happen just that fast. It's a summer series and this week a father and daughter went on a hike in a National Park and they both got attacked by a Momma bear. They both survived, but just barely. Please be careful!

The little fawn visited again last night as I was repotting some annuals, I heard this strange cry and there she was. I think she wanted me to leave so that she could munch on my potato vine! LOL!

I love that you would have put on a big show too, with that tree. That makes me feel like I'm in good company!
XOXO

Jan,
I love surprises like that!
:)
I did do a post about my blue birdbath but it actually is a different one!
LOL! I have two and the other one is less of a royal blue and has a "moon" glazed into it.
Ha! I'm surprised you remembered that.
I'm not sure if the neighbors admire me but that's so sweet of you to say!
