You might need to sit down for this!
I hired someone!
I interviewed a girl on Monday and she seems very nice and very mature.
I think she must be in her early twenties but she possesses a sense of calmness and confidence,
She came in and I showed her the place on a Monday while it was still a mess from so many dogs going home.
Dirty kennels, dishes in the sink and laundry going and also in a big pile
and she seemed to take it all in and be fine with it.
She's going to work Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday mornings!
That's right!
I will have weekends off once she's trained.
I tried to remain cool and collected
But inside my head I was screaming and jumping up and down in JOY!

I then called the high school girl that had stopped in the end of last week.
I was hoping to have her cover a few evening hours when the other girl (who's given me so much trouble), ends up quitting.
Unfortunately the high-schooler said she already found another job.
I'm not so sure if I believe that because of the way she kinda hemmed and hawed but that's OK.
I'd rather her realize that she doesn't want to do the job before she starts
than have her train and then a couple of months in, quit.
Now with this new Hire and my other new perfect girl....
things will eventually work out.
It's a good thing because this last weekend about just did me in.
I was there forever trying to get it all done and I never got to leave on schedule.
Then this Monday rolled around and I had so many dogs that were going home and yet more coming in
that I felt like I was mentally going to lose it.
It was just too much for one person.
My friend from Sweden, Christer, had let me know that it's illegal in Sweden to work all work every day,
even if it's not a full day of work, without getting a full 24 hours off at some point.
So Monday when there was a bit of a break in the action I went up to the lab room where the vet techs were gathered in a group talking.
One of the head techs was standing in the group so I walked right up to her

and I said -
"It's ILLEGAL for me to work 7 days a week, I need some help, I need a day off, so figure it out!"
and I walked away.

So now I will have Wednesdays off for a while.
Later I interviewed this girl and suddenly it looks like things are going to finally fall in place.
Then I got a call from my temporary Saturday night help.
She had needed this coming Saturday night off and was wondering if anyone had volunteered to do it.
Of course no one would work it for her so I said I'd cover it, (although I already work Saturday morning).
She felt bad that I would be doing a double shift so she volunteered to take my Thursday this week!
That's right!
I am currently having 2 days off in a row!

Yesterday, Wednesday, the first thing  that happened was that the power went out.
A transformer blew a few blocks away and 1800 people were without power, including me.
So I started cleaning house and rearranging furniture.

I got A LOT done.
I moved almost ever piece of furniture in the house and it looks like a new floor plan.
All my art supplies, table, shelving and desk are on the main floor.
Most in the kitchen area but some in the living room area.
I don't care that it's not traditional looking.
I don't want to have to pull out my supplies from upstairs, carrying them downstairs
and then worry about putting them away so that every thing appears like most homes.

My Art isn't going to be something that I TRY to find time for.
It's not going to be a hobby.
It's going to be a major part of my life
and taking center stage.

Finally the power came back on and I was able to go outside and cut the grass
(I have an electric mower)
Then of course I started transplanting some flowers and I planted a tree that I had found on big markdown.

Then I came inside and made everyone dinner and started laundry.
I still have housework to finish but I spent a big part of time catching up on blogs.
I'm feeling EXCITED
and I'm going to go full tilt on creating.
Paintings, prints, cards, calender's and COLORING pages!
(More on that later).
and Halloween and Day of the Dead pieces.
So many things to do! LOL!
But I'm pulling out of this funk and remembering that my job is not my life,
it's just my job.
I will always worry about my boarders but once I get the right people in place
I can relax and just go crazy with my Art.

And finally, I must say how APPRECIATIVE of all the support my blog friends here have given me.

Your invisible hands have held me up when I've been so tired
and your positive energy has cheered me on when I felt so beaten down.
Thank you so so so much!
You will never know how much I value your friendships!
Thanks for being there.

It seems everything will work out nicely :-)

It's only when one only have one employer that one isn't allowed to work seven days every week, if one happens to work for more than one (which is uncommon here) it's possible to work seven days a week but it isn't something to recommend. The rules are different if one has ones own business too, they can work themselves to death if they want to :-) :-) :-) I'm so glad You now have at least wednesdays of and this Thursday too :-) No one gains anything if the employee works so much that she or he get sick or/ and get burned out.

An artists home isn't supposed to look traditional looking, didn't You know that :-) It is suppoosed to be a bit messy and un organized :-) :-)

Have a great day!

Thank you for the info Christer!
and really, when I think about it, they can't fire me for not working all the time.
Or if they do, well I think I would have a good case.
AND, although I DON'T want to do pet-sitting, I think I know enough people who say they only come to the clinic because of me, so I could offer them my services if I indeed got the axe at work.
I need to be strong and stand up for myself and stop worrying about EVERYTHING!
(not easy to do for a chronic worrier!)
that statement about an artists home? That makes me happy!
My home must be one then! LOL!

if they would ever fire you... which they will NEVER do... why would you get rid of the only work horse there? WE would file a lawsuit and be your witnesses!!!!
i'm so happy for you!
and i agree with christer.
you're an artist!
they never live in houses.
they live in their studios!!! and it's wonderful!!!!!
i can't quit grinning here. you've passed through the crucible.
you're on the other side! we all love you for your spunk and your love for the animals and for just being you. XOXOXOXO♥

I'm not too worried about being fired but who knows!
They have fired people who were an asset and kept slackers but....
I'm almost on the other side of that hill I've been struggling over!
The next two days are doubles but I can at least see the light at the end of the tunnel now!
And just having 2 days off has gotten my head focused on what's important in my life.
:D :D :D
I'm glad you liked the photos! LOL!
I tried to find ones that would help tell the story.

I'm so happy for you!

I think a living room studio would be much more interesting than a "normal-looking" living room, whatever that would be. Don't forget, creativity is seldom tidy.

Thank you Jean!
I'm happy too.
I trained the new girl this evening and she was very nice and caught on quickly.
And you are SO right about tidiness and creating.
I like things to be orderly but they seldom are! LOL!

This is great! I hope she works out well (work being the crucial word). Happy for you that you are standing up for yourself in your place of employment and also at home! Set up your studio where you will be able to do the work that really frees your soul and don't hide it away. You can be proud of the work you do in all aspects of your life. I'm proud of you!

Thank you!
I'm so glad that I found another good employee.
I had to work a double both Friday and Saturday and then this Sunday morning and I gotta say, it about killed me!
Luckily I did some training with the new girl Friday night and Sunday morning and she's doing very well.
She does this light whistle to the dogs rather than the yelling that my irritating employee had started doing. (I've told her to STOP yelling!)
and I was worried that the new girl might change her mind after this busy and hot weekend but as we were leaving this morning, she turned to me and I could see that she was sweating and said that when school starts she could actually work a few more nights!
I didn't realize that she's in her final year of college but at least I will have her for a while.
But I was so happy to hear that she already wanted more hours!
and Yes! I can't wait to get busy creating some Art!
Thanks for stopping by!

I just now found your comment!
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.
Thank you!
Yes, I guess I finally had to just break free and do what I needed to do.
And I need my Art to be my main focus.
I'm so excited about getting back to sort of a normal life and to actually get enough sleep!
Once I do, I know I'll be raring to go.
Actually I am right NOW but just lack the time.
Soon that will all be resolved.
Thanks again!

Oh, I'm so happy to return here to find such GREAT NEWS! So pleased for you Cindi :)
And, it's so good to read that art takes precedence :)
Looking forward to seeing what's up your creative sleeve!

Yes! My focus is Art!
Now if my laptop and printer would both start working. Grrrrrr
It's always something.
But maybe it's just another way to keep me focused!
I'm so happy to see a comment from you!
I hope things are going well for you too my friend!
