I was talking with my friend Denise from http://onthevergeofsnapping.blogspot.com/ the other day about the ART thing and that my latest take on it was that like every other thing in my life, I had been viewing art as a way to make money. I would see something that someone made and SOLD and be influenced by the fact that it sold and not so much about how FABULOUS it was.
We were talking about some of these older artists who just created and painted and painted and explored and did it for their enjoyment and tried different things and ideas without the nagging voice in their head "Will this sell?"
Create for the fun of creating. not worry about cost of materials or saleability but just for the sheer fun of it. So after our discussion and with much thought. I began to work on my writing and she started doing a sketch a day. All the above sketches are Denise's.
And then today I went to her blog and found this:
MY BLUE! What a wonderful surprise! You just KNOW that I LOVE it!
Thanks Denise! You are simply Fabulous! :)

You are so right...to create for the enjoyment and fun of it...to not be stifled by the need for money. A hard thing to do if you are trying to live all on your own.
They were talking about this today on Advanced Style. To just create and not think about what other's think. To focus on one thing and do it.
That is my goal for 2011....to create something I realy want to create other than house decor....ha!
It's the same with writing, I think. If you write, worrying about getting published, it will show in your work. We need to create for the joy it brings us (and hopefully others!). And besides, we don't need any more pressure in life, anyway! lol! I love Denise's sketches, and I can't wait to see your new work. :)
Cindi, you know that we all would like to sell our work, but that's just not going to happen all the time, so enjoy the ride, not the destination!! I create for the sake of creating, but if it sells, great, if not, it's MINE!!! Mwhahahahahha!!! LOL
Love the sketch of Blue...perfectly wonderful!!
Have a great day and create, my friend...you've got the stuff!!
xxoo,

But to be honest, most of the famous old artists did have someone that helped them financially. Very few of the famous ones could have survived without that help.
Some of them may even have made better work just because they had very little money.
Have a great day now!
Christer.
That is a wise observation. I have been an artist all my life It is so hard to not look at others for finical inspiration but that is the kiss of death for your own passion. It is a hard walk to walk and balance your emotional needs with your finical needs. PS thanks for the comment on my move to Michigan we are doing it !!
Cindi,
Hey girlie, I need to say this to you, So listen up! First your blue looks very adorable!
I have not me you in person but reading your posts feels as if I had met you and I love love the way you are honest with each one. You are so charming raw and eloquent in the way you express yourself. So my point is you have a gift. So my dear, trust yourself and do what inspires you and go with it. You are a wonderful writer because you are so sincere. Once you focus what Cindi wants and feel the joy in doing it without worrying about the other stuff. Everything will follow! Trust your journey dive into it without fear. Trust what's in your heart and follow it and once you do openly I believe that you will do great and wonderful my sweet Cindi. Okay sorry for the preaching! But I mean it with all my whimsical heart!
Hi Cindy,the drawings are fabulous!
Blue is very beautiful and inspiring :)
Really the material reward is inversely proportional to the pleasure of painting.
In the artists we lived of pure passion.. the times with a lot of difficulty.

So true, once in a while I'll get "lost" in that whole mess and have to bring myself back down to making things "for me" :)
Great drawings!
These are great drawings . I had a hard time reading though > the blue on the black is hard for this old lady [ me ] ....
I call 'those' thoughts > my bad thoughts .... when I approach art thinking " who the heck will buy this "
bad bad to think that way
Hey Cindi,
thanks for the king words, and thanks to everyone else for the compliments, too!
Cindi, looks like you're getting some good advice and I'm glad you've started the research to get the book going.
