I FOUGHT THE LAWN AND THE LAWN WON.

Summer is of course a very busy time at my job.
My Boarding Area is packed but that's good.
Busy + Waiting List = Job Security.

But it does leave me exhausted and no energy to get stuff at home done.
I've shared photos before of my yard and right afterward I got a lot of it mowed down
but I didn't tackle the area of the hill.
Too Hot + Too Tired = No doing it.
And then it's rained several times.
A couple of days ago I walked down to the top of the hill again.
I just stood there looking at it.
I'm not even upset.
OK yeah, I WAS, but no, not any longer.
Nope, I'm NOT going to let it drive me crazy.
But..these weeds are TALL..
I mean like 4 feet.
This one is even taller than that.

So...I'm done.
My niece Lily is coming over tomorrow and we are going to clear just the top part.
Then we are putting up a fence.
Yeah, that's my usual M.O.
If I can't deal with something, then block it out and try to forget it.
I do have BIG plans for the top area now though.

PLAN C -
I'm fencing it in and lining it with flowers and making it into a big outside room.
Painted picnic table, birdbaths, fairy garden, fire-pit area...yep, things like that.
PLAN D -
Or buying a big discounted pool and surrounding it with pea gravel.
PLAN F -
Or maybe a horse trough/stock tank for a MODERN effect.

Maybe not.
But...I DONE with that damn hill.

It makes you realize why some people will resort to Round up! Toxic stuff! Too bad it isn't organic, it sure made weeding easier. But I'd rather have weeds than poison. It is really amazing how these things just spring up out of the ground with no help from us. My house would have disappeared long ago if I didn't whack back the bushes.
Your gallery of dogs are so diverse and cute!

Jan,
I don't want to use anything that would harm or kill bees.
I just have a million others things to do besides pulling weeds, so I will pull what I must and mulch and then just forget it.
I do usually have a good group of sweet and funny dogs. Most of them are "regulars" but every once in a while there will be someone "rowdy".
Oh well! at least I'm working with dogs and not people!
Hahahahaha!

Sweet dog faces! I relate to the garden taking over. Some days I swear I can see the grass growing!

Yes those are a bit big to mow down :-) But You could get a scythe and cut them down if You want. It's a special technique when using a scythe though.

I would do like You though, just don't care about it :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

yup.
fence it. even nature needs a rain forest for it's nature stuff.
and you've given it one.
now you can enjoy a little fenced in heavenly place all your own!
small enough to keep. big enough to enjoy.

Christer,
I actually used to have one of those! I'm not sure what happened to it. But yeah, I'm going to ignore the weeds!

Tammy,
The neighbors and I had a Momma deer and her baby in our yards the other day!
So that settled it for me. I'm going to leave the bottom wild so that the wildlife can enjoy it.
I've seen chipmunks and baby rabbits too, so...
Also another neighbor across the way has done what I'm going to do.
I noticed that the top of their yard is trim and neat and the very top of their hill is also kept up but below it, it's wild.
Yep, that's what I'm gonna do.

oh yeahhh, keep the weeds, throw some wildflower seeds in there so you get pops of color, keep it neat around the edge and enjoy the greenery. I don't know why we've been conditioned to think weeds are ugly. Some of them have some beautiful leaf patterns, and some of them sprout little flowers. Besides, perennials are really considered weeds, too. We just groom them and replant them and share them.

Like you said, you're also helping wildlife. Seals the deal.

Wow! That's a crop!

I do love your friends - those special faces make the weed blues go away, I'll bet :)

Thanks so much for this comment!
I love the idea of sprinkling wildflowers in with the weeds!
Maybe some Mammoth Sunflowers!!!
Such a fabulous idea! and to mow around the edges to give it some tidiness. Love it, Love it.
Thanks again"! xoxo

I don't think there's any choice but to keep it mowed down on a regular basis. Maybe you could hire one of the Casserole Kids to keep it in shape next year.

Is that a Portuguese water dog?

Pools = algae.

Steve,
Well...that was the plan. :(
Yep. Me and plans just don't get along I guess!
Those Casserole Kids don't even mow their own lawn, their mother does it, so much for that! LOL!
Which dog? the last one is a Goldendoodle but the big black one with the tongue is a Newfoundland.
Newfie's are nice but TONS of drool and this one hates cats. He tried to get Kanga one day as he was walking in!
